Growing trayplants with soaker hose

posted Dec 30, 2014, 10:21 AM by Klaas Plas   [ updated Dec 30, 2014, 10:24 AM ]

Plantmaterial are very important for the growth of strawberries. In growing trayplants better or worser irrigation, fertigation, plantprotection etc may cost quite a lot of yield in the coming year.
In growing trayplants unfortunately quite some water and fertilizer is lost because it just doesn't reach its goal: the plant roots. Especially because of the shelter effect of the leafs as plants are some bigger, there are several plants dry whereas other get too much water.

Beekenkamp packaging had developed a tray for dripirrigation. Unfortunately because of weather effects: shrinking and expansion irrigation became unequal (differences in water amount between plants too big).
With these problems we started working on a system that might solve this. Beekenkamp therefor offered several trays to try out some ideas.
With the same tray and a soaker hose the problems with shrink and expansion could be solved. Because of the large number of pores, the differences in water amount between the plants still remains acceptable.

Below a film that shows how it works.
